The Indigenous Pathways Program is a paid, full-time, 9-month learning and development opportunity that starts in September 2024 and supports First Nations, Inuit or Métis storytellers to hone their skills at CBC. Indigenous Pathways provides training on story development, writing, critical thinking, ethics, and inclusion, as well as career development support and work experience.
Journalism or Media Production education or job experience are not required to apply. The program runs until June 2025.
One successful candidate will be based in each of this year’s host locations. This position will be based in Toronto. This role is within the CBC Kids department with the Kids News team with the opportunity to explore additional Kids’ content production units.
The CBC Kids News placement is for you if:
Are an aspiring First Nations, Inuit or Métis journalist.
Have a deep interest in multimedia storytelling about news and current affairs for kids aged 9-13.
Are connected to your community and passionate about its stories.
Want to gain practical, hands-on experience working at CBC.

Able to provide storytelling examples and ideas.

In this program, participants will:
Develop skills and tools for advancing a career in journalism.
Explore multi-platform storytelling through writing, images and sound.
Create stories that connect with Indigenous audiences and reflect diverse perspectives.
Grow relationships with, and be supported by, mentors, trainers, peers, and Indigenous CBC colleagues.
Work in journalism, gaining valuable professional experience.
What is CBC Kids News?
At CBC we are building a legacy product for tweens. CBC Kids News is a digital news service that raises kids’ voices, reflects their world back to them and helps provide context so that they can better understand the stories, issues and events that impact their lives.
CBC Kids News is a FUN team. They are a mix of adults and kids from across the country. Together they cover real news that kids care about. We take pride in providing a safe space for kids while working on trending and timely stories.
Your role
As an AP on the CBC Kids News team, you will have the opportunity to produce both written and video content that appeals to kids aged 9-13. You will develop the skills to take complex stories and tell them in a way that makes a story relatable and enjoyable to read. While you work under the direction of one or more producers, and follow CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices, you will have plenty of opportunities to take initiative and show independent judgment.
