Call for Members: Indigenous Advisory Committee

The Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC) is seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join our Indigenous Advisory Committee. This committee aims to provide valuable insights and guidance on matters affecting Indigenous communities.

Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

About the Committee: The mandate of the Indigenous Advisory Committee is to provide advice and recommendations regarding SRC efforts towards the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s (TRC) reconciliation opportunities and strategies, including strategies to involve more Indigenous businesses, strategies related to community engagement and other areas of SRC business that may have connections to Indigenous communities.

The Indigenous Advisory Committee will consist of six members, including at least one elder and one youth, who will sit as members for at least four years. Committee members will receive an honorarium and travel expenses for their participation.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice on policies, programs, and initiatives affecting Indigenous communities
  • Participate in regular meetings (bi-annually) and special events
  • Collaborate with other committee members and organizational staff
  • Advocate for the needs and perspectives of Indigenous communities within the organization
  • Provide feedback in the development and implementation of culturally appropriate practices and strategies
  • Offer perspectives on Indigenous issues
  • Advise on culturally sensitive approaches

Requirements:

  • Indigenous citizen (First Nations, Métis, Inuit)
  • Experience in community engagement, advocacy or advisory roles
  • In-depth knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions and issues
  • Willingness to share ideas and feedback
  • Commitment to promoting reconciliation and inclusion initiatives
  • Vast understanding of Indigenous community needs and how SRC might support those needs
  • Cannot be an elected leader; must bring a unique nonpolitical perspective and must be able to speak freely, openly and without conflict
