The Charlotte Birchard Centres of Early Learning is an incorporated, non-profit, charitable organization governed by a Community Board. The Centres offer early childhood education and care for children eighteen months to twelve years of age.


The organization consists of two purpose-built facilities. The Westboro Children's Centre, established in 1979 in the Westboro community, connected to Hilson Avenue Public School and Greenboro Children's Centre located at 1400 Cahill Drive East in Ottawa South since 1989.


CBCEL accommodates over 200 children and has a staff of 38 employees. Our Early Childhood Educators are registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators.

WESTBORO Children’s Centre is looking to fill one (1) full-time, Early Childhood Assistant to work in our centreβ€”35 hours/week or 7.5 hours/day. The Centre's hours are Monday- Friday from 7:30 am-5:30 pm. Non Instructional days will be 7.5 hours. Regular work days will involve a split shift.


Program Assistant Role: The role of the Program Assistant is to assist the educating team in supporting children ranging in age from 18 months to 6 years, who attend the various programs program offered at the centre. As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate the required skills, knowledge, and qualifications while also outlining your passion for early childhood education. This opening is ideal for an energetic, creative, and dynamic individual who is interested in joining a team of passionate early childhood educators. You must share a commitment to support inclusivity for all children to be able to interact in the program while fostering optimal learning opportunities for children to fully participate in all activities in the program.


Essential Skills/Knowledge


  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English

  • 2+ years of recent experience working in a child care setting with a varied level of age groups (18 months - 6 years)

  • Previous experience working with children with special needs, including children with Down syndrome

  • Experience using DigiBot and StoryPark or other comparable software

  • Knowledge of Ministry of Education CCEYA, 2014 Legislation and How Does Learning Happen Framework.

Qualifications


  • A valid Standard First Aid Certificate and Level C CPR course

  • A Current (within 6 months) Police Records Check for Persons Seeking to Serve the Vulnerable Sector

  • Updated immunization and other health assessments as required by the Ministry of Education

Additional Skills


  • Ability to communicate in additional languages

  • Desire to pursue an Early Childhood Education designation
