Sturgeon Public School Division is currently seeking an Indigenous Education Coordinator I to collaborate with school and system leaders to develop and execute strategies that promote Indigenous Education and support the success of First Nations, MΓ©tis and Inuit students. The Indigenous Education Coordinator will provide expertise in analyzing student success and attendance data, offer culturally responsive supports and services, and will establish and maintain strong connections with Indigenous communities.

Sturgeon Public Schools serves the needs of approximately 5,200 students in 17 schools. Throughout Sturgeon Public Schools, we work very hard to create safe, caring and inclusive learning environments. Our schools work with parents and community members to implement innovative programs and strategies that support the success of First Nations, MΓ©tis and Inuit students, and benefit the entire school community.

Assignment: 1.0 FTE; Full-Time Term from Aug 26, 2024 to June 30, 2026

Duties:

  • Collaborate with school and system leaders
  • Analyze and actualize student success and attendance data
  • Provide cultural supports and services
  • Lead the Call to Action cohort
  • Liaise with Division Cultural Liaison

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Master's degree in Indigenous Studies or Education
  • Lived experience within an Indigenous community
  • In-depth knowledge of Indigenous histories, cultures, and contemporary issues
  • Experience working in Indigenous education or community engagement roles
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practices and culturally responsive pedagogies
  • Familiarity with local Indigenous communities and protocols is an asset
  • Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in education
