Term: 1.00 FTE - 1 Year Contract with the possibility of extension 

Salary: $43,680.00 – 45,760.00

 

About the Organization:

The Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle is a regional social planning and development organization. The BANAC service region covers Simcoe County, Muskoka, and the York Region. BANAC works in cooperation with communities in areas of concern where coordinated efforts are required to meet the needs which positively impact the region. BANAC will continue in this social planning capacity, offering consultation and support for our community development. BANAC offers many innovative programs and services including Family Wellness, Childcare, Seniors Care and Long-Term Care, Cultural Services, and wholistic Healthcare Services through the Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin Indigenous Interprofessional Primary Care Team.


ROLE DESCRIPTION:

Working within the Homemaking Framework, the Indigenous Independent Living Care Coordinator assesses client needs, determines client eligibility, develops plans of service with clients, and coordinates home making services for individuals 55 and up with age related health conditions, and/or disabilities and/or who require respite. These services will be delivered in a culturally safe and appropriate manner that ensures the best outcomes for clients. Non-medical homemaking services will be offered in the Simcoe region.

 

ROLE RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Experience with completing health assessments using the RH-CHA tool, an asset
  • Experience working with the senior and aging population with age related and or disabilities
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities
  • Experience working with a trauma informed lens
  • Ability and experience that assists consumers in their own homes with non-medical activities of daily living in accordance with individual service plans and March of Dimes Canada policies and procedures such as personal care, dressing/grooming, rising/retiring routines, incontinence care (upon training), meal prep and feeding, range of motion exercises, light housekeeping, lifts and transfers (upon training)
  • Performs duties in a professional manner, which respects the dignity and right to privacy and maintains consumer and staff health and safety


WHAT YOU BRING:

The ideal candidate will be a skilled, culturally safe with strong attention to detail and organizational skills, a positive attitude that respects Indigenous knowledge and who is at ease balancing competing priorities and meeting seniors where they are at in their cultural journey.

  • Minimum post-secondary education: preference in area of Indigenous Studies or diploma related to Personal Support Work with a minimum 5 years’ experience in Cultural programming and or long term care.
  • A combination of skills, education and life learning specific to cultural knowledge may be considered.
  • Experience in facilitation and delivering of at home services for the aging populations.
  • An authentic understanding, practice and ability to share Indigenous history, culture, traditions, ceremonies and values.
  • Ability to work in a manner that exemplifies Indigenous core values of respect & kindness.

Information About Working at BANAC:

  • Work is typically performed in clinic, office, and community settings.
  • Regular travel to meetings and communities will be required – vehicle an asset.
  • Regular overtime work may be required from time to time, BANAC team members enjoy a flex schedule agreement.
  • Periodic exposure to smoke may occur from the burning of sacred medicines: Tobacco, sweet grass, sage, or cedar.

 

Specific employment conditions are specified in an employment contract with BANAC and include the following:

  • Worksite location
  • Valid C.P.R. and A.E.D. Certificates required.
  • Valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License is required with clear check for vulnerable sector.
