  • Completion of grade 10

  • Five years of experience and demonstrated skill related to the traditional crafts of the position (such as moccasin-making, beading and other traditional Indigenous crafts)

  • Demonstrated ability to share cultural knowledge with the public

  • Experience working with public of all ages

  • Highly developed verbal communication skills

  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR is required prior to commencing employment

  • An original Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check issued within the past 6 months that is satisfactory to the employer will be required before starting in the position.  The new hire will be required to obtain this check from Edmonton Police Service. Please note\: this may take up to 3 weeks to process

  • Ability to work weekends and evenings as required


Assets\:



  • Knowledge of local and Indigenous histories, including Cree and Métis traditions

  • Experience working at a museum or historic site, teaching crafts, and/or leading workshops

This is for 1 temporary, Summer position for up to 38 hours a week for approximately 4 months, and may continue up to 11 months in duration.

If so, join us as a Traditional Craftsperson and engage the public by demonstrating skills like moccasin-making, beading and other unique cultural crafts and by producing vibrant pieces for display and wear!


As a Traditional Craftsperson, you will:



  • Interpret a period of Edmonton's history to the visiting public through demonstration of traditional crafts in our Indigenous spaces in the 1846 Fort & Tipi Camp, and 1885 Street & Métis Camp.  

  • Engage and interact with the general public as an integral part of the job

  • Demonstrate a commitment to customer service and the principles and standards of a living historical museum

  • Assist with special events

  • Provide programs and demonstrations for rental groups as required

  • Assist in the maintenance of artifacts and program supplies

  • Share skills and knowledge with staff, volunteers, and visitors

  • Be willing to sign a photographic consent form in accordance with City requirements
