Job Summary
The School of Nursing’s MSN Indigenous Wellness Pathway Liaison is responsible for supporting the recruitment, retention and success of self-identifying Indigenous students in the MSN Indigenous Wellness Pathway in alignment with UBC Policy SC-7 Discrimination Policy
The Indigenous Wellness Pathway Liaison is a connection point that brings resources (mentors, funding opportunities, culturally safe wellbeing supports) to self-Identifying Indigenous students
The Indigenous Wellness Pathway Liaison serves as a conduit for anonymous student feedback to enable the School of Nursing to make nimble, responsive, positive change in their MSN Indigenous Wellness Pathway
Organizational Status
The School of Nursing is a part of the Faculty of Health & Social Development at UBC Okanagan. The School of Nursing’s MSN Indigenous Wellness Pathway Liaison reports to the Director of the School of Nursing and works with the School of Nursing Graduate Program Coordinator and the Manager, Strategic and Academic Initiatives for the Faculty of Health & Social Development.
This position works independently, with initiative and considerable autonomy under the general supervision of the Director.
This position consults regularly with the Faculty of Health & Social Development’s graduate program assistants, the College of Graduate Studies, Indigenous Programs & Services, UBCO Indigenous Elders-in-Residence in committee meetings, gatherings, visits and personal/one-on-one relationships

Consequence of Error/Judgement
This position requires a person that is culturally safe in their way of being, knowing and doing. The work performed by the MSN Indigenous Wellness Liaison directly impacts the experience and learning of current students, prospective students, faculty, and staff involved in the MSN Indigenous Wellness Pathway.
The MSN Indigenous Wellness Liaison ensures that the MSN Indigenous Wellness Pathway is delivered in a culturally safe and culturally appropriate way, ensuring positive outcomes and experiences for Indigenous students’ overall wellbeing in the program.
Supporting students in crisis or in need of support can profoundly improve their access to necessary support services that support student’s wellbeing. Indigenous student recruitment and retention is a major strategic goal of the School of Nursing, and this role is essential to fulfilling the School’s mandate, and to ensure MSN students are fully supported as well and their voices are included in this whole process. It is only when we are able to truly provide a culturally safe experience to our MSN students that they will in turn be able to provide culturally competent care and leadership in the healthcare system during their studies and in their careers after graduation.

Reports to the Director of the School of Nursing. Works closely with the MSN Graduate Program Coordinator, the Manager, Strategic and Academic Initiatives, the Graduate Program Assistants in the Faculty of Health and Social Development, and the self-identifying Indigenous students in the MSN Indigenous Wellness Pathway
